Autumn melancholy – mark making

Ideas and experiments / Mark making in general

Autumn is here – a number of grey and quiet days has passed, and so I have been out to soak up the energy of quiet withdrawing and with this a sense of melancholy. — Have tried to convey the feelings and impressions on small pieces of textured Japan paper in sepia. I have used Sepia charcoal to make the studies – not too much contrast. — Here are a couple of pages from my […]

Texture in chopped wood

Ideas and experiments

I am sitting here in the sun and looking at a piece of chopped wood and thinking on how to translating inspiration to mark making. The piece is beautifully adorned with deep lines, like a small animal has travelled in an unknown land. Some of the lines make up a tree with trunk and branches. Some lines provide a background. Some lines are on their way, and in my minds eye I see this long […]

Ideas and experiments / Ikke kategoriseret / Introductory Project - further work

White and pale yellow on black drawing paper. Colour, form, texture, good in a mix with the sunflower seeds. I was very fascinated by the inner part of the flower, the little stems defiantly sticking out – perhaps I could make a brush looking like this providing me with ochre inspiration? Black drawing paper gave a good and clear background for small sketches and compositions to think about. A little stem with a dot – […]

Ideas and experiments / Introductory Project - further work

I have a larger Gelli Plate, 8″ x 10″ to use for printing papers for collages. In this particular instance I wanted to work with some of the same colours as I have been observing throughout the Introductory Project. Doing this by using the primary colours combined with a dark neutral. And finally an intention of leaving a good bit of white on the prints. I have used Arches 300gr aquarelle paper, torn into squares […]

Ideas and experiments / Introductory Project - further work

I have a red and a Salmon coloured Geranium in pots outside, and I was wondering what colours their petals might give, if any, so I soaked the left-overs in a pot with water and experimented; Interestingly the colours on aquarel paper and ordinary drawing paper came out pinkish – why not red and salmon ? Is it the chemical combination as the flowers do not look pink or lilac ??? Could the stripes in […]

Ideas and experiments

A quick colour study while watching a mountain stage in the Nike race Vuelta de Burges. Bike races make great company while doing tedious stuff for my dayjob 🙂 So a sunburned mountain in grey/brown neutrals with small vegetation in muted green. The eye-catching thing here was the fuchsia flowers scattered all around the harsh mountain. Little snippets of hope. Left my desk and did a few dabs with my Polychromos pencils. Peacock feeling Bark […]

Ideas and experiments / Introductory Project - further work / Introductory Project - Nature´s Larder

So the other sleepless night at around 2.36 am – I sat at my desk and noted the following ideas from my Introductory Project whi ch could be interesting to generate some more work around – and which also could be fun to look at – so here goes; The notion of cycles – the temporal aspect, Ouroboros in nature, are we here now ? The disolvement of forms – more vegetables and flowers to […]
