Atessa is a little hilly village in the Abruzzo region in Italy. The alleys are narrow and the view full of perspective and colour. High mountains in the distance are often clouded and misty, and the whole area looks a little tired after a long, dry summer.
Here are a few sketches from my daily notebook;
This one was done over a lazy Sunday lunch of pasta and white wine – sitting outside the tiny hotel, looking across the street.
Had a small room on the fourth floor. The windows were places high up under the ceiling, but if I stood on a chair with my sketchbook I had a wonderful view over rooftops, a church to high mountains in the distance. I tried to look at the big chunks.
